When your child feels under the weather, a visit to the doctor can help determine why and get them on the road to recovery. At Abra Health, we offer comprehensive care for children, including sick visits. Unlike wellness visits, which are focused on preventive care, sick visits are designed to diagnose and treat your child’s illness.
Through our expert knowledge in pediatric care and compassionate approach, your child will receive the treatment they need to recover quickly. We understand that when your child is sick, you want nothing more than for them to get better. We can help put your mind at ease and focus on what’s important – getting your little one back to good health.
When Should I Schedule a Sick Visit?
Determining when your child’s illness warrants a visit to the doctor may be tricky. For more mild symptoms, it may be appropriate to try at-home treatments first. However, if problems persist or your child’s symptoms worsen, it may be time to schedule a sick visit. If your child’s symptoms are extremely severe, a trip to the emergency room may be necessary.
If you notice the following symptoms, it may be time to schedule a sick visit:
- Fever in children younger than one
- Fevers that last more than three days
- Fever in children older than one with accompanying symptoms such as a rash or vomiting
- Widespread rash
- Vomiting or diarrhea that lasts more than 24 hours
- Heavy breathing
- Stomachaches, earaches, or a sore throat
- Signs of an infection or any other symptoms that last more than a couple of days
If you are unsure whether or not your child’s symptoms warrant a sick visit, give us a call. We will be able to provide you with medical advice and assist you in determining if scheduling a sick visit is the best course of action.
What to Expect During a Sick Visit
We are committed to providing your child with an excellent standard of care. During a sick visit, one of our expert pediatricians will thoroughly evaluate your child’s symptoms and check their vitals. We will also ask questions about your child’s medical history and current health.
After completing our evaluation, your child’s doctor will be able to provide you with a diagnosis and create a treatment plan. This may involve a prescription for medication, a referral to a specialist, and at-home care instructions. A follow-up visit may also be scheduled to ensure your child is responding well to treatment.
